TALKING POINTS:  “BORDER CRISIS”

From a Patriot
I really think Cruz is hitting a dead note by harping on the inhumanities to "the children."
Besides hewing to the left's line that these are all children, people frankly aren't affected by it.
It's a hypothetical to ordinary people, a story about some invisible kids they haven't seen.  Not effective.
Or convincing--Cruz doesn't play the violin well.

Effective: parents care VERY MUCH about the possibility of their kids being in school with possibly
unhealthy kids.
  E.g. http://news.yahoo.com/arrest-warrant-issued-man-tuberculosis-192756320.html

Witness even our fearless [someone the patriot knows], highly alarmed at the mere possibility.

The second aspect I'd hit that the Pied Piper President is luring kids from their parents.  Splitting
up families, encouraging parents

From the Friends of Liberty Letter

    • If you want to give the country away, vote Democrat.
    • Lawlessness in the White House and on the border.  YOU are the anarchists, not us.
    • Yemeni’s and Paki’s coming across.  I’m intolerant?  Why would I tolerate people in my own country that want to destroy the First Amendment, end our sovereignty, and have us submit to their world domination.  Explain it to me.
    • Exactly what are 14-year old gang-bangers from Guatemala going to add to our economy?
    • Don’t you think we citizens should at least have a conversation before we give the country away?
    • The government is importing inequality (poor illiterates).

From Tea Party Patriots 7/20

There is a crisis on the border – which can be solved by respecting the rule of law, enforcing our immigration laws and securing our border.

The current crisis at our southern border is the president's own doing.  He has reneged on his past positions and promises in regards to securing our border and enforcing our existing laws.  The president is responsible for this crisis and we oppose his border bailout.

I agreed with the President, when he said in 2008:

“We need immigration reform that will secure our borders”

- Barack Obama, June 28, 2008

I agreed with the President, when he said about illegals in 2011:

“we have to acknowledge they’ve broken the rules.  They’ve cut in front of the line.  And what is also true is that the presence of so many illegal immigrants makes a mockery of all those who are trying to immigrate legally”

- Barack Obama, May 10, 2011

I agree with Justice Sonia Sotomayor, when she said in 2009:

“I firmly believe in the rule of law as the foundation for all of our basic rights.”

- Sonia Sotomayor, May 26, 2009

The President has reversed himself on this critical issue and the results are devastating.

Millions of immigrants came to America – legally – to pursue the American Dream.  We admire them for playing by the rules, respecting American law, and contributing to our country and our community.

We are for legal immigration – and against illegal immigration.

There is already a legal path to American citizenship for those wishing to come to the United States legally.  Those who choose to get off that path, cut into line, and break the law, should not be rewarded by our government – and they should not be shipped to our state without our consent.

American citizen taxpayers should not be stuck with a $3.7 billion-dollar-border-bailout to pay for this crisis.

Just like the bank bailouts were used by politicians to cover up problems of their own creation and pay off special interests, this $3.7 billion-dollar-border-bailout is being sought to hide the fact that President Obama and Congress have repeatedly failed to enforce our immigration laws and protect the American people, as well as handing out taxpayer money to pro-amnesty allies of President Obama.

I ask the President to keep his own word; to honor his oath to uphold the Constitution and enforce American law, to not reward those who cut into line and break the law, and to secure our borders.

(Specifically on the $3.7 billion “emergency spending request” to deal with the “border crisis.”):  Before they come to us to pay for another one of their billion-dollar-bailouts, first they should respect the rule of law and enforce our immigration laws - actions that cost no additional tax dollars.  We also need politicians to keep their promise to secure the border.

(Specifically on illegal immigrant minors.):  Our hearts go out to those less fortunate than us.  The most humanitarian thing we can do for these illegal immigrant minors is to send them to their home countries where they can be reunited with their families at home.  Flying these minors home to be with their families is a far more humanitarian response and far less expensive than the president's border bailout.

It is the height of irresponsibility for the president to have deliberately and dishonestly insinuated that families in central American can illegally send their children to the US. It is unconscionable how this president or anyone else could incite families to abandon their parental responsibility by suggesting young people try to illegally enter the US.

What the president should be saying is, "Do not try to illegally enter the US.  If you do, you will be deported. If you want to become an American citizen, follow our laws, get in line, and start on the legal path to citizenship."
