Canada Up Against Court-Ordered Deadline to Expand Euthanasia

Canada Up Against Court-Ordered Deadline to Expand Euthanasia
All eyes on Canada as Parliament faces court-ordered Dec. 18th deadline to expand euthanasia beyond imminent death
- Liberal MP opposes current bill because it allows people with transient despair to choose euthanasia
- Palliative care doctor: “As doctors we should be instilling hope, supporting resilience and using our expertise to find creative solutions to address health and well-being. Instead, we would be required to suggest assisted suicide as an option if this bill becomes law.”
- It will take many cases trying many sets of circumstances before the dimensions of this become clear
- Critics: government has a mandate to protect the life of its citizens, not help take it
- Advocacy group has already started the drumbeat for the new bill, arguing palliative care is not enough. #TheLeftNeverQuits
- Why don’t things ever move back in the other direction? In part, because there’s no activism pushing for it. Anti-euthanasia activists don’t go on offense, but merely try not to lose more ground. Shame on us.
- ‘Unbearable suffering’ is not solely a question of physical health; a large component is fear of future decline, dependence, and isolation triggered by an event like a fall.
- The emotional and social component seems addressable with, e.g., counseling, reassurance from family members, and volunteer programs like students making nursing home visits. Encouraging the elderly to push the Easy Button for assisted suicide seems more designed to advance the political agenda of the Left than it is to address ‘unbearable suffering’.
- Euthanasia is not just a failure of the people around the patient. It’s a failure and lack of imagination on the part of patients themselves to find a reason to get up in the morning. However, the choice is being conditioned by the Left’s withering assault on individualism. By pushing groupthink, collectivism, and identity politics, the Left weakens the individual’s sense of self-worth - ‘If I’m just an ant in somebody else’s ant colony, then what’s the point of going on living?’ Don’t you see how insidious the Left is? They claim to be ‘life-affirming’. They are anything but. They are deliberately weakening your sense of self so you become pliable and more easily controllable.
- Speaking of the Left wanting you pliable and more easily controllable, the total government of the National Socialists (Nazis) took control and mandated you to die when its ‘experts’ said your time was up. It’s no accident the Nazis considered individuals important only to the extent they embodied the potential of the race and the Thousand-Year Reich. The resemblance to today’s Left is not purely coincidental. If you’re going to reach Utopia and create Heaven on Earth, you gotta break a few eggs, right?
- The emotional and social component seems addressable with, e.g., counseling, reassurance from family members, and volunteer programs like students making nursing home visits. Encouraging the elderly to push the Easy Button for assisted suicide seems more designed to advance the political agenda of the Left than it is to address ‘unbearable suffering’.

Government-Assisted Death Making Steady Advances
Tasmania’s lower house of parliament approves assisted suicide bill; next action March 2021

Government-Assisted Death Making Steady Advances
Tasmania’s lower house of parliament approves assisted suicide bill; next action March 2021
- Bill supposedly limited to the terminally ill, but we know how that goes
- What a wretched place. Glad I don’t live there. Belgium is in the grip of the nihilistic suicidal European Left.
- You want to kill yourself, fine. Don’t drag me into it with your laws. It’s not ‘physician-assisted suicide’, it’s ‘government-assisted suicide’.
- Canada’s 2016 assisted death law did not prevent euthanasia for mental illness alone
- This would not have been possible in the UK:
"Our current laws here in the UK, which ban both assisted suicide and euthanasia, exist to protect those who are sick, elderly, depressed or disabled from feeling obliged to end their lives - People like Nancy Russell who clearly felt alone, depressed and a burden, unable to cope with the isolation and restrictions of another Covid lockdown.”
"The current laws protect those who have no voice against exploitation and coercion and those who care for them who might come under pressure to save money on care costs. They do not need changing."
Group of 1,000 Canadian doctors call C-7 assisted dying bill “a reckless piece of legislation without adequate safeguards for the vulnerable”
- Provision in the bill requiring doctors to presented assisted death as an option “gives that impression to the patient that they may be better off dead, and that’s not the message we want to convey to our patients. It will create seeds of doubt in our patients’ minds, it will make them second guess and question whether the medical system has their care in mind.”

Netherlands Changes Euthanasia Rules to Make Sure You Don’t Put Up a Fight
This is getting really sick: the Netherlands changes its rules to allow doctors to surreptitiously sedate dementia patients who consented once upon a time, but might become agitated during euthanasia
More than 50 palliative care docs in the UK sign letter against assisted suicide; most doctors won’t participate in it and ‘safeguards’ are often breached, like that pesky little requirement patients actually give consent
Assisted suicide is dangerous - it demoralizes people who want to have hope and fight their disease. #PushTheEasyButton
Netherlands Changes Euthanasia Rules to Make Sure You Don’t Put Up a Fight
This is getting really sick: the Netherlands changes its rules to allow doctors to surreptitiously sedate dementia patients who consented once upon a time, but might become agitated during euthanasia
- You mean like they just might no longer consent? Not many lines left to cross, folks. Flip forward a few years: The government knows best and when you become a problem, it will make sure you are removed. That goes double for political prisoners, free thinkers, and EVERYBODY if depopulationists ever get ahold of public policy. Think I’m alarmist? Think how many lines have already been crossed - the shift of the rationale for euthanasia from ‘intractable pain’ to ‘completed lives’, for example - and how short a jump it is from government-assisted suicide to government-directed death. #TheLeftNeverQuits
- Canada’s ruling party rushing pell-mell to expand eligibility without performing the required 5-year review of how the 2016 law is working in practice
More than 50 palliative care docs in the UK sign letter against assisted suicide; most doctors won’t participate in it and ‘safeguards’ are often breached, like that pesky little requirement patients actually give consent
- The letter points out ‘intractable pain’ is a thing of the past given modern pain medicine; pain is no longer a justification for assisted suicide laws
Assisted suicide is dangerous - it demoralizes people who want to have hope and fight their disease. #PushTheEasyButton

Old man’s death by starvation and dehydration raises troubling questions - Do you have a right to make others complicit in your suicide? If you sedate people who choose starvation/dehydration, how can they communicate they’ve changed their minds? Do we really want to go down the ‘completed lives’ road and offer government-assisted suicide to people who are just ‘tired of living’?

So many to kill, so little time. Children under 12, people of any age who are tired of living, people whose natural deaths are not reasonably foreseeable - did we leave anyone out? If we did, the Left will get around to them eventually. #DeathCulture #CivilizationalSuicide

- Enemies of the West are chortling with glee at these developments. Euthanasia is a national security issue unless, of course, you’re a nihilist to whom NOTHING matters, not even what kind of life your children and grandchildren will have. If we’re going to commit suicide as a civilization, shouldn’t we at least have a discussion about it instead of letting the Left push us over a cliff through their incrementalism without us realizing it?
